Today’s Tip: Stop guessing if it’s working.
Yesterday’s blog post we talked about, does measuring your Social Media return on investment (R.O.I) really matter at all? Um, of course it does.
But not just your social media efforts. You should be measuring everything in your business. How else do you make the best operational decisions? Not with gut feelings, hunches or guesses. But, rather with facts.
There seems to be a lot of talk and mystery surrounding measurement and R.O.I for the social media activities. It really isn’t that difficult if you keep it simple.
How do you know if your social media efforts are paying off in the dining room (the only place they matter)? You know by asking.
Yup, asking and getting to know each guest. How did you hear about us? Have you been to another of our locations before? Are you on our fan page? etc.
Get the idea?
This is where it gets interesting.
How can you the owner/operator/manager/chef possibly engage with each and every guest on a daily basis?
You can’t. But, Your staff can.
They are the eyes and ears, the ground troops of your business. You as the operator/manager need to let your staff know that this is a priority piece of information and something management really needs and would like to know.
Funny thing, if it’s important to management, staff usually find it important as well.
A word of caution- just asking is not enough. This hunger for measurement and guest information needs to be instilled into the culture of the operation on each and every level. It needs to be a huge focus.
Or, you can always just guess and use your gut.
